A couple months ago I was in my son’s room and I had a revelation, “this boy has way too many darn toys.” He has toys all over the floor, spilling out of the toy box, and even under the bed. These are toys that he doesn’t play with, batteries are dead in them, or he simply doesn’t even know they exist. As I look around his room, I’ve realized how much money I’ve wasted. So with Christmas vastly approaching, I decided to not purchase as much as I did the year prior. Last year my husband and I spent around $500 on my son, this year we cut that in half to $250.
I think as parents we all want our children to have more and better than we had but when do we say enough is enough? Deciding to not spend as much this Christmas holiday has nothing to do with not having the money to do so, it has more to do with me wanting to practice more responsible spending habits. I don’t think it matters if your gross income is $20,000 or $75,000 a year, I feel that there should still be a reasonable limit to how much you are willing to spend on your children for Christmas. So how much are you spending on your children this Christmas?

ReplyDeleteYes, birthdays can defintely put a dent in your pockets as well. Some progress is better than none at all!!
DeleteYes, as parents, we do typically spend too much because we always want each Christmas to be better. I do not plan to spend as much as prior years. Going to try to teach them more about giving to others and how special it is to be with family.
ReplyDeletei absolutely agree with teaching our kids more about the giving aspect of Christmas opposed to always receiving.
